Dr. Pat Longmuir is leading a team of researchers and physical activity professionals who are working to change the health care and recreation delivery systems so that children with complex heart problems can participate in community recreation and physical activity opportunities. The Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport Healthy Communities Fund has provided funding ($63,950) through the SickKids Foundation for a 17-month project that will bring together pediatric cardiologists, cardiac nurses, parents of children with complex heart problems, and recreational professionals. The project will identify the system changes and resources needed to enable these children to participate in community physical activity opportunities with their peers. The resources developed will benefit children with complex changes to their heart shape, beating pattern and pumping action. Congratulations, Pat!
