As part of her three-week trip in China, Dr. Pat Longmuir was invited to visit the maternal and Children’s Hospital of Hainan Province, China, by Prof. Ling Li. Her invited presentations shared information about physical activity among cardiac patients, and the assessment of physical literacy among children with disabilities and medical conditions. On Day 2, she taught the Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy to 40 staff members of the Rehabilitation Department and Child Development Centre. The staff then assessed the physical literacy of several children with cerebral palsy, under Dr. Longmuir’s guidance. The visit concluded with Dr. Longmuir providing physical activity recommendations for a wr-month old boy who will be the first to have surgical correction of his complex heart defect when the hospital begins providing paediatric cardiac surgery services in October 2017.
