On Sunday, the RBC Race for the Kids took place in Ottawa for the first time. The RBC Race for the Kids is a 2K, 5K and 10K all terrain walk/run event in support of youth mental health programs at CHEO.

All of the closed courses made their way through beautiful Wesley Clover Parks – an innovative, four-season outdoor recreation and learning hub located in the National Capital Greenbelt that encircles the City of Ottawa.

The HALO team of runners included MSc student Holly Livock, summer student Catherine Pouliot, Knowledge and Data Analyst Joel Barnes, and HALO Scientist Dr. Jean-Philippe Chaput. They all ran in the 5K race. Joel and JP placed in the top ten.

Overall, the event was a huge success. According to CTV Ottawa News, “More than 1,800 people laced up for a 5k and 10 k race in support of the local children’s hospital. Many participants ran and walked the event as a family.” More than $285,000 was raised for CHEO!
