HALO staff and students were well-represented at the recent 2nd Joint Meeting of the North American Society for Pediatric Exercise Medicine (NASPEM) and the European Group for Pediatric Work Physiology (PWP) held in Niagara-on-the-Lake from September 22-26, 2010. Dr. Mark Tremblay, Director of HALO, gave an inspiring keynote lecture, Travis Saunders (Ph.D. Candidate) presented physical activity findings from the KIDS-CAN and CAPL projects, and Dr. Kristi Adamo presented findings from the GAMEBIKE study. Dr. Meghann Lloyd, Dr. Rachel Colley, Allana LeBlanc, Emily Knight (M.Sc. Candidate) and Richard Larouche (Ph.D. Candidate) all presented posters at the conference relating to active transportation (CAPL), motor skills and fitness testing (CAPL) and the use of accelerometry to measure physical activity (CHMS). Overall, it was a successful meeting with three important lessons: 1) there is great wine in the Niagara region; 2) “NASPEM-PWP Kids” are smarter than researchers; and 3) that epochs do, in fact, matter!!!
