On April 21st, 2021, HALOites participated in the COVID-19 and Public Health Forum (virtual). Professor Mark Tremblay acted as the Chair and Moderator of the symposium titled “COVID-19 Restrictions Linked with Adverse Movement Behaviours in Canadian Children and Youth.” HALO Postdoctoral Associate Dr. Michelle Guerrero and Outdoor Play Canada Research Manager Dr. Louise de Lannoy made symposium presentations. Michelle’s presentation was titled “One month into the pandemic: Who’s meeting and not meeting the 24-hour movement guidelines?”. Louise presented “Regional differences in access to the outdoors and outdoor play of Canadian children and youth during the COVID-19 pandemic”.

Learning objectives included: 1) Describing the changes in movement and play behaviours of children and youth during the COVID-19 pandemic; 2) Explaining how parental perceived capability to support children’s and youth’s movement behaviours was related to adherence and non-adherence to the 24-hour Movement Guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic; and  3) Explaining the importance of preserving and promoting access to outdoor play (e.g., by keeping public green spaces open) as a major public health priority for COVID-19 recovery efforts.

Congratulations, Mark, Michelle, and Louise on the successful symposium!
