On May 21st, 2024, the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA) celebrated its 10th anniversary!
The AHKGA was established in 2014 with a mission to power the global movement to get kids moving through thought leadership, knowledge translation and mobilization, capacity building, and advocacy. This is facilitated by sustainable partnerships and cross-sectoral collaborations that enable best-practice exchanges, networking and cross-fertilization.
Here is a list of AHKGA’s most notable achievements in the first 10 years:
- May 19-22, 2014 – The Global Matrix 1.0 was released at the Global Summit on the Physical Activity of Children in Toronto, Canada, featuring 15 countries; and the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA) was established.
- July 21, 2014 – The first posting was made on the AHKGA website.
- November 26, 2016 – The Global Matrix 2.0 was released at the 6th ISPAH International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health in Bangkok, Thailand, featuring participation from 38 countries.
- May 25, 2018 – The AHKGA became officially incorporated as a not-for-profit organization.
- August 14, 2018 – The first Memorandum of Understanding for a long-term partnership with an international organization – International Sport and Culture Association – was signed.
- November 27, 2018 – The Global Matrix 3.0 was released at the Movement to Move conference in Adelaide, Australia, featuring data from 49 countries.
- May 13, 2019 – Regular AHKGA newsletter to the membership began.
- September, 2019 – The international impact of the AHKGA physical activity Report Cards for children and adolescents was assessed and published.
- February 7, 2020 – New standing committees – Communications, Partnerships, and Fundraising – were formed as part of AHKGA administrative advancements.
- April 6, 2020 – Guidance on healthy movement behaviours for kids during the COVID-19 pandemic was developed and translated into 6 languages.
- January 18, 2022 – The AHKGA Fellowship program was established.
- October 24, 2022 – The Global Matrix 4.0 was released at the 2022 ISPAH Congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE, presenting data from 57 countries.
- December 6, 2023 – A new AHKGA standing committee – Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) – was formed.
- January, 2024 – A global call to include data on children and adolescents with disabilities in Global Matrices was issued.
- March, 2024 – Over 7000 citations from over 230 Global Matrices and Report Card-related peer-reviewed publications were accumulated.
